the feeling that

they are beings

real, i think

what they said

flora and fauna

plant and animal

except for tiny, vague

viruses and such

all life is one or the other

i am putting trees

right up there

as their own

form of life

in this new taxonomy

i just invented

maybe trees

are the true indigenes

setting roots

and making a home

tending their gardens

trading with neighbors

seeking stability

with open limbs

what, you might say

about the fungi (silva, flora, fauna, funga?)

and you may be right

they may also be apart

i prefer to see them

as a giant support system

for the trees

a bias of perspective, perhaps

(are they the true foundation of life? ...possibly)

so much

we don't see

we don't know

what lies beneath

what goes unsaid

life everywhere

not caring what we think

doing things we can't imagine

until we ourselves learn

to sink our roots down

and feel the dark earth

to dream the green dream

and hear the silvan song

to give ourselves up

and live the animal life

we will not understand

​

that around us all

and beneath the cities

the roots run deep

and join together

holding a center

older than us

the ancient silvan pact

the goddesses once knew

​

all is one

and one is all

only when we step inside

to join the sacred circle

will the way be clear

only when we see we can belong

in the new world too

can we listen
