so the sun still came up this morning
shining down on us all
full light 
on the indescribable 
and heartbreaking 
beauty of life

​

how did this happen
what do we tell our kids
tell them
that when the sun shines in our eyes
it's time to stand up and be counted
among the living

​

shake your head
but hold it high
we are standing
tall as trees
and the truth rustles in our hair
like the wind in the leaves
